Terms and Conditions For GLL 2024 (AU)

Important Information

  • Dates: February 19 – March 20 2024
  • Training Sessions: Mondays at 7.00 pm Sydney time
  • Games: Wednesdays at 7.00 pm Sydney time
  • Grand Final: March 20 2024

Admission, Participation & Play Criteria​

  • Players’ ages 9 to 13 years old
  • Knowledge of Greek: all levels
  • Players must connect through computers. Mobile phones are not allowed. If the player does not own a computer, they must inform their coach for an alternative solution
  • Players must play by the rules and adhere to the spirit of the game
  • Players must sit in a quiet environment, using a desk and chair
  • Inappropriate and disrespectful expressions and gestures will lead to the disqualification of players
  • The players that will qualify to the final must have or create skype accounts
  • Siblings must connect via different computers and from different rooms
  • Participants must provide their legal guardian’s written consent for their participation
  • In order to participate in the game, a team must consist of a minimum of 3 players. Failure to meet this requirement will result in disqualification, and the opposing team shall be declared the winner by default
  • To receive the award, players must attend every game without any absences
  • Players that do not abide by these rules will be disqualified from the game and thus not eligible to  receive the award in case their team wins

Regulations for the GLL as a program involving children

  • Consideration has to be given to the child’s age, maturity, emotional or psychological development and sensitivity in order to select the child as a player
  • No child should be exposed to ridicule, insult or discouragement, harsh comments or any behavior that could affect his/her emotional health
  • The remarks by the judges/coaches/presenters of the GLL should be encouraging. A child’s sensitivity should be borne in mind while evaluating his/her performance in the competition
  • It should be ensured that the children are not caused anxiety or distress by their involvement in the competition
  • Children are to participate in the GLL from their houses to ensure the supervision and safety of all children involved in the competition
  • Parental/guardian’s consent should be obtained before the child participates in the competition

Training Session & Coaching

  • Every team has an assigned coach. The role of the coach is:
  • To help the players prepare for the specific field of each game i.e. Greek geography
  • To make sure that the players learn how each game is played
  • Training sessions will be held once a week with a maximum duration of 60 minutes
  • To make sure that the players comply with the rules of the GLL
  • To provide emotional and psychological support to the players throughout the GLL

Game Procedure

  • Each game will take place in live online meetings
  • During the first round of the GLL, each game sees two teams compete against each other
  • Teams compete in a chosen game with questions on Greek language, culture, history, science, geography and general knowledge
  • When a team wins they receive 3 points
  • The two teams that will gather the most points in the first round of the GLL, will qualify to the final on Mar 20, 2024
